Hollywood is best known as the city of the stars. It is a place where people go to make their dreams of fame and riches come true and it seems that whomever you strike up a conversation with has a story about leaving home for the dazzling city or of how they met such and such a star at some point during their years there.

Even if you have no dreams of becoming at actor or actress or becoming amazingly famous, there are many tourist spots to go to in Hollywood. This town has a mind boggling number of things to keep you entertained, so you can be sure that you will never have to wonder what you will find to do on any day during your vacation.

One of the most popular tourist spots to go to in Hollywood is the walk of fame on Hollywood Boulevard. Few people can deny the sense of awe and excitement that they feel when visiting the walk of fame. It is amazing to see all of the names of celebrities and think about how much history the boulevard has accumulated over the decades.

Another of the popular tourist spots to go to in Hollywood is not exactly a spot but more of a hobby, which is shopping. Few people can visit Hollywood without doing their fair share of shopping. There are some many unique shops and boutiques in this town that you would be missing out greatly by not visiting at least a few. Even if you go home with just one item from your shopping venture, you are likely to think of your entire trip to Hollywood each time you look at the item in the future.

If you are thinking about taking a trip to Hollywood, you might want to think about hiring a travel agent to help plan your trip and make sure that you hit up all of the tourist spots.

Vacations are supposed to be a time of fun and adventure and few places in the United States hold the same lure of Hollywood. There are plenty of popular tourist sports to go to in Hollywood, so it is a safe bet that you are more likely to suffer from exhaustion at the end of each day rather then boredom.

West Hollywood is known for its vibrant culture Ð nightlife, dining, entertainment and more. It is home to musicians, actors, high-profile chefs and other celebrities. Yet, despite the high profile of the city, it remains surprisingly accessible. If you are looking to move there or just want to rent a new apartment, there are a number of ways to get around the city and explore everything the city has to offer.

By fusing top model fashion, unparalleled nightlife and unique culture into 1.9 square miles of California land, West Hollywood’s reputation as the, ‘Good Looking City’ was born. Complete with world class shopping, innovative dining and a thriving art community, West Hollywood is the perfect location for everything from romantic rendezvous to up-all-night-on-the-towns. Chock full of interesting people and world famous events such as, the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival and the Gay Pride Parade has allowed West Hollywood to make its mark in everyone’s agenda book. The legendary Sunset Strip, showcasing a prime collection of rock clubs, restaurants, boutiques, and Hollywood nightspots is also a must-do. As well, be sure to take the time to marvel at the creativity present on The Avenues of Art & Design. Loaded with 14 distinct hotels, more than 120 restaurants and temperatures that soar into the high 70’s, West Hollywood boasts an experience worth talking about.

The Boulevard Lounge, 1114 N. Crescent Heights Blvd, is a sexy new lounge that is casual yet a stylish mix of people and great mix of music. It is a great bar food, plus an array of drinks from house-made sours and mixes to a large list of beer and wine.

The closest airport to this area of Los Angeles is through (IATA: LAX) From here you can either catch a cab, shuttle or bus. The four main bus systems that stop at LAX are the MTA or the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus and the Torrance Transit.

There are plenty of good places to eat, but for a bit of a funkier mood, check out Hamburger MaryÕs. A legendary spot in West Hollywood located just around the corner at 8288 Santa Monica Blvd (just east of La Cienega); they boast the reputation for having the greatest drag queen bingo game in town every Wednesday night. There are two games, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and often entail celebrity co-hosts. But when it comes to Happy Hour Hamburger MaryÕs certainly doesnÕt disappoint either. Smatterings of appetizers from hot wings, to nachos, to mozzarella sticks are all $4. They offer $4 well martinis and even $5 margaritas. It takes place every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. And be sure to check out the $3 Bloody Mary special and $1 Mimosa special every Sunday during brunch hours.

So there you have it, West Hollywood is a bustling city with plenty to do people to see. If you are planning to rent an apartment, now is a perfect time. With more people waiting out the recession, apartments are in high demand. But developers have planned ahead and designed new urban lofts and condos. Be sure to take your time and explore the many neighborhoods and apartments. The perfect apartments in waiting for you in West Hollywood.

How much has Hollywood harmed traditional folklore and mythology?

By admin | May 14, 2009

Fiona asked:

And TV shows?

Hollywood almost always uses a modern, made-up version of folklore and mythology in movies. Very, very rarely is anything presented true to the old culturally-based beliefs. Revisionist history already seems to be much more popular than real history, and new movements are constantly rewriting the old folklore and mythology (we see it on here all the time). How much do you think Hollywood is contributing to the dumbing-down of society?

Hollywood Film Industry At A Glimpse

By admin | May 8, 2009

Victor Epand asked:

Film industry is an amalgamation of technological and commercial institutions of filmmaking. It generally consists of film production companies, film studios, cinematography, film production, screenwriting, pre-production, post production, film festivals, actors, directors and film personnel.

Today the film industry is spread all around the world. In the present century the major business centers of filmmaking are concentrated in the United States, India and China. Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles, California, that is situated in west- northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Due to its fame and the cultural individuality of movie studios and movie stars, the word Hollywood is often used as a metaphor for the cinema of the United States which is popularly known as Hollywood film industry.

The history of Hollywood film industry probably started in the hands of D.W. Griffith when the Biograph Company sent him and his crew. They started filming on a vacant lot in downtown Los Angeles in early 1910. Soon the company explored new territories to find that the region was quite friendly and very ideal for shooting. So, Griffith then filmed the first ever movie shot in Hollywood, titled In Old California. The movie company then stayed there for some months to shoot several of their films and then returned to New York.

Starting in 1913, this wonderful place came into the limelight when moviemakers started heading there. Thus Hollywood film industry took birth. The first feature film made in Hollywood was called The Squaw Man. Nestor Studio, founded in 1911, was the first movie studio in Hollywood. Fifteen other small studios also were established in Hollywood. Gradually Hollywood came to be so powerfully associated with the film industry that this term began to be used as a synonym for the entire industry.

During the First World War Hollywood became the movie capital of the world. By the year 1950, music recording studios and offices began moving to Hollywood, though much of the movie industry had already been moved there.

The world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame was constructed in the year 1958 and the first star was placed in 1960. The Walk of Fame was placed as a tribute to the artists working in the entertainment industry. It is embedded with more than 2,000 five pointed stars featuring the names of not only celebrities, but also fictional characters. Self financing Hollywood Historic Trust maintains this Walk of Fame. The first star to receive this honor was Joanne Woodward. An artist receives a star based on career and lifetime achievements in motion pictures, live theatres, radio, television, and music.

The famous Hollywood sign which originally read Hollywoodland, was constructed in the year 1923 as an advertisement of a new housing development. The sign was left to disuse until in 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce repaired and removed the last four letters. The sign, now located at Mount Lee, is now a registered trademark and hence cannot be used without the permission of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Hollywood film industry can be called the Mecca of film industries. Though geographically it is located in Hollywood, it resides in the hearts of millions of film lovers and film related persons. The Hollywood remains and will remain a king, without a scepter.
